About

Amir Mobed was born in December 1974, in Shahroud. As a teenager, he had a passion for art and fortunately, his secondary education was coincided with the opening of the Graphic Art School in Shahroud in 1991, where his knowledgeable and motivated masters, such as Mohebi and Bitaraf have created an atmosphere, full of energy and thirst for learning for those like him. He attended professors Monir and Mehdi Ghanbeigi’s workshops at the end of the second year of high school, eager to learn more and achieve financial independence. The two studied in England and were acquainted with the Modern Art methods, and paved Amir’s way and as he has explained, he was professionally formed and was highly motivated to work and to study at the university afterwards.

Mobed, after graduating from the Fine Art School in 1995, entered the field of painting at the Faculty of Art and Architecture of Tehran Azad University. During the third year, he participated Charsoo Art Institute programmes, managed by Saeed Ravanbakhsh and continued gaining new experiences. He was initially familiarised with Contemporary Art, back in 1999 at Charsoo Institute of Art and a series of theoretical and practical workshops held by Professor Ziaei and Mr Qahramani which sparked the idea of his undergraduate Thesis, introduced as the first dissertation on a non-painting subject (installation), at Azad University. He defended in 2001 and a year later after his graduation, in 2002, he presented his dissertation work to the third Tehran biennial of Sculpture and won the third prize.

Amir Mabed is a multi-aspect and experimental artist who has experimented various media and has significantly worked in the fields of sculpture, installation, performance and environmental art. Most of his artworks have challenged the concepts and definitions of human life and have provoked the viewer’s emotions by engaging the audience in space. In some of his installations, we encounter ready-made, everyday objects, each of which contains cultural and social ironies. Violence and suffering are the main themes of his installations and performances.
